A Starfish

This story represents the philosophy of Animal Hospitals of the Lowcountry & Safe Harbor Animal Hospital – an animal hospital in Mount Pleasant SC…There once was a little girl who lived by the ocean. She felt a sacred bond with animals. Dogs, cats, horses, dolphins… she loved them all. One day, she went to the beach with her family. There, she saw something terrible… hundreds of starfish had washed ashore. Frantically, she ran to rescue them.

All by herself, she worked through the day to carry the starfish back into the sea. Finally, as it was getting dark, her parents made her come back home. She cried; there were so many starfish she couldn't save. How could one little girl change the world?

But while she couldn't save them all, for this starfish...

She had changed its world. Did you know that… A veterinarian in a blue striped dress holds a small starfish over shallow water, offering a close view of the starfish resting on their open palms.

There are so many lives out there. So many animals to love. To care for. To rescue. We know that we can't save them all. But when you bring your pet into our hospital, your pet becomes our starfish. And while we can't change the world, we can change their world.
